Yes, it starts

Just came back from my first cs3216 lesson and took a shower. It's a new day alr.
Though have been told how fantastic and amazing cs3216 was, I'm still impressed in the first lesson. There was this moment when prof talked about the key figures in 21st century: IT & Energy and how ppl gonna fight for energies, Star Wars came to my mind lol. I felt like we were Jedi being selected and gonna make a big difference for this planet. >.< Then I realized that YES, it starts. Once start, you cannot stop it. Truly the module itself won't make the difference for us. How big the difference would be and how are we gonna figure it now really depend on ourselves. I'm also glad to meet so many talented and enthusiastic dudes. I'm quite inspired by them. I'm just looking forward to working with them. so go ppl, let's getting started!

The Art of Teaching Entrepreneurship and Innovation (Entire Talk)

What I Hope to Learn from CS3216

Just checked CS3216 blog. "CS3216 is about learning how to take risks and work outside our comfort zones. Why would we want to do something like that? Well, because if we do not push at the boundaries, there will not be progress - and if we do not push at the boundaries aggressively enough, there will not be breakthroughs." And I find this is exactly what I think and the reason I choose this module. After specialized in IS, I found myself moving away from computing and getting close to business. This is what I expected initially but I didn't expect I would miss CS modules, which are more exciting and challenging. IS is the one I wanna develop as my future career (that's why I didn't change major). CS is the one makes me crazy but can't stop loving it. I told myself, "if you wanna challenge, why not choose the biggest one?" the one which will definitely push you out of the comfort zone and delight your life. Here am I, ready for the BIG IDEA :)

What I hope to learn from CS3216? I have been asking myself this question since I got involved. It turns out that the longer I've been thinking, the more pops up.

If cs3216 can only help me to gain computing skills, it won't be so outstanding. What I expect more is to gain comprehensive capability. It is hard to define "comprehensive capability". For me, it's the ability to "think higher, do better and become stronger".
Frankly speaking, I'm not a very creative person. What I'm good at is to add colors to the initial work. This time, I wanna think bigger. I hope to get inspirations from my working buddies when we share our ideas and work them out. Think higher also means to really think about the "great work" I love to do in my life. I'm not sure if I can find it in this course but surely I will keep looking for it.
I also want to do better. Although it has been clearly stated that cs3216 is much more than programming, the very basic thing I wanna learn from the course is still computing skill. It will be cool to deal with numerous software applications and use them to work out our own applications! I know I may even learn that without taking this module but I do need some motivation. I hope to get a proper guide to keep me in the right track; and I hope to progress together with my classmates who I expect are all passionate (sometimes you feel much better when you know someone is also suffering together with you :P) I want to do better not only in those fields I've been familiar with, but more importantly, to do better by dealing things I never encounter before. I like surprise, no matter bitter or sweet. If it is a good thing, embrace it. If it is a problem, solve it. If really accident occurs, accept it and look ahead. I always believe, there's nothing you cannot go through.
I think the most I hope to learn from this course is how to become a strong person. A person with a mighty heart, being able to handle complexity, staying calm under stress, taking responsibility, cooperating with project mates and always pursuing success without the fears of failures etc. (err..I feel I'm so serious talking about this point, but it's truly what I am thinking)
oh~ I also hope to learn those unexpected or exceptional :D

Arrr...finally comes the last paragraph. I wanna end this post with an old saying by Chinese philosopher, Confucius "学而不思则罔,思而不学则殆". It means learning without thinking leads to confusion, and mere thinking without learning ends in danger. So, even though I feel it a bit time consuming to write blogs (why not we just write twitter lol), I expect it helps me to take some time for thinking through the way of learning. New semester starts tomorrow. Jiayou!!!

Happy New Year 2010

Our trip to Mt. Kinabalu opens a new year 2010.
farewell to the last sunset in 2009 and embrace the first sunshine in 2010.
This amazing mountain actually means more than that to me. It is the mountain that appeared in my dream when I was in high school. I was so impressed at the moment I saw my friend's picture of it. And I knew I would get there one day. I didn't expect we can make the day so special. At the beginning of 2010, when everything is so promising and inspiring. Looking back to this journey, it was rather difficult to climb to the peak as it kept raining that night. But I never thought we would give up in halfway. if you really want to do sth, then there's nothing can stop you. it's the strong determination and willpower that took us to Low's Peak. I can't describe how happy and proud I was at that moment. I can only share my feelings with friends who were by my sides then. We encouraged each other along the way and went through the difficulties together. and finally we made it! That was really amazing and memorable experience. I hope it's a good start of my fruitful 2010 :D
